Common Questions

Calgary home renovation questions, answered.

Calgary home renovation questions, answered the way we'd answer them on the phone — cost, timelines, who's permitted to do the work, and what happens when something isn't right.

These are the questions Calgary homeowners actually ask us before a renovation — no sales pitch. If yours isn't here, give us a call to discuss; we're happy to talk it through.

  • A Calgary home renovation usually runs anywhere from a few thousand dollars for a small update to six figures for a whole-home rebuild — it depends entirely on scope.

Those are typical market ranges, not your quote. No two projects are the same, so your real number comes in a written estimate after we've seen the space and talked through what you want. For a fuller breakdown of what moves the number, see our cost guides — kitchen, bathroom, basement and garage — or the price ranges on each service page.

  • Neither — we take on everything from a single stuck closet door to a whole-home renovation. Some of our longest relationships started with a small maintenance job: one client had us out for attic squirrels and insulation before we did a second-floor addition on their century home. Our core work is kitchens, bathrooms, basements, garages, exteriors and whole-home renovations, plus rental and pre-sale work. If you're not sure whether your project is a fit, just ask — we'll tell you honestly.

  • Most renovations run on a predictable schedule once the plan is set — here are the typical timelines: kitchens 6–12 weeks, bathrooms 4–8 weeks, basement developments 8–14 weeks, whole-home and structural work longer. Add time up front for City of Calgary permits, which usually take a few weeks to process for residential work. Because one accountable project lead sequences all the trades on your job, the schedule holds — and if something does move your date, you hear it from us early, not after the fact.

  • For most projects — kitchens, bathrooms, basements — yes, you can stay in your home. We set up dust barriers, protect floors and walkways, and keep the rest of your home livable. You may be without a kitchen for a few weeks during a kitchen renovation, which most people manage with a temporary setup we plan with you. For a whole-home renovation or major structural work, staying elsewhere is sometimes more comfortable — we'll talk that through honestly at the planning stage and sequence the build to keep the disruption as short as we can. One client with young children called living through a big reno "daunting," and told us afterward we'd made their comfort and privacy a priority — that's the goal.

  • We're one accountable team that manages a trusted network of long-term licensed trade partners — and we'd rather tell you that straight than pretend otherwise. Many of these trades have been part of our projects for nearly a decade. They aren't in-house employees; they're established, licensed partners who know our standards, our process, and what we expect. What makes it work isn't a payroll arrangement — it's continuity and accountability: the same trusted trades, year after year, with one project lead answerable for all of them from the first walkthrough to the final one. If a contractor tells you every trade is on staff, it's worth asking who actually shows up.

  • The short version: a Google review record you can open and read for yourself, one accountable team from the first walkthrough to the last, and trade partners who've worked to our standards for years. We're a boutique renovator, not a high-volume shop — you deal with the same small team from the first walkthrough to the last, and the people who plan your project are the people who see it through. We answer cost questions honestly instead of chasing you with a "free quote," and we put our commitments in writing. That combination — one accountable team, real continuity, honest talk — is what our Google reviews keep describing.

  • Some jobs are genuinely DIY-able, and we'll tell you when yours is one of them. Where we earn our fee is on the projects that need licensed trades, City permits, and a coordinated schedule so the work is done once, to code, without the mid-project surprises that come from managing five trades yourself. One homeowner put it better than we can: "We were going to take on the work ourselves but I'm sure glad we didn't." And if you're a landlord or seller staring down an unpleasant turnaround, hiring it out simply buys back your time and distance — more on that below.

  • Most structural, electrical, plumbing and addition work in Calgary requires City permits; cosmetic work like paint, flooring or cabinet refacing usually doesn't. Anything that opens a wall or touches utilities generally does. We pull the required City of Calgary permits and book the inspections as part of your project — it's built into the scope, not a surprise line item. Permitted work matters beyond the build, too: it's checked at resale and can affect your home insurance, so it's worth doing properly.

  • The Suite Guarantee is our written renovation guarantee. At its centre is a one-year workmanship warranty from substantial completion — if something we built fails inside that year, we come back and correct it at no cost to you. Around it sit the commitments we're held to: changes to scope, price or schedule documented and approved by you before work proceeds, a documented final walkthrough, and a reply within two business days when you contact us about a concern.

  • Start with the project quiz — tell us about your space and your budget comfort — or just give us a call to discuss at (403) 465-2288. From there we set up a conversation, walk the space, understand what you're hoping to do, and prepare a written estimate covering the full scope of the work. No pressure, no obligation, and no "free quote" games — just a straight conversation about your renovation and what it will cost.

  • Yes — we work in Calgary and the surrounding communities, including Airdrie, Cochrane, Okotoks, Chestermere and Canmore. We quote any travel into the project up front, so it's accounted for in your estimate rather than added later. If you're just outside these areas, ask — we'll let you know honestly whether it's a fit.

  • Yes — helping investors and sellers get a property market-ready or rental-ready is part of what we do, including turnovers after a tenant has moved out and improvements before a sale. To be clear about what we don't do: we don't handle evictions or manage foreclosures — that's another company's job. We come in afterward to clean up, repair and prep the place so it's ready to list or re-rent. If you're weighing that kind of work, our rental and pre-sale pages have the detail.
